History

Internet access at major, Internet technical events is often erratic.  It is provided by hard-working volunteers, but in an ad hoc manner.  Graybeards* was an idea for using knowledgeable volunteers in an organized, on-going manner to provide continuity of service for these events.

* The term "graybeards" has historical import. The early days of the Internet were marked by a small community of researchers showing a remarkably high correlation to the presence of facial hair. As the Internet matured, so did the facial hair.  The term "graybeard" became popular as a reference to elders among the Internet community.
